Oakland Accelerated College Experience (ACE) to be phased out and replaced with a new program (Stay tuned for more information)
The Oakland Accelerated College Experience (ACE) is an early college program designed to meet the needs of students who are interested in being challenged and who may need support to get to college.
Enrollment begins in tenth grade, with college classes beginning in 11th grade. Students extend high school by one year in order to earn BOTH a high school diploma and an associate’s degree, 60 college credits, or a technical certificate at NO COST to the student.
Eligibible students must have a 2.3 GPA, earn a qualifying score on the COMPASS English test, be on track to graduate from high school, and meet one of the following criteria: qualification for free or reduced lunch, first generation college student, ELL student, special education student, or homeless student. This program was created through a collaboration between Avondale High School, Oakland Schools, and Oakland Community College.
