Outside Counseling Resources
While the Avondale High School Counseling Department strives to meet the needs of each student, it is important to remember that counselors do not provide therapy within the school setting. The counselor is available to meet with students in crisis, and will then refer students and parents to outside community resources for more extensive help. There are many services available within our community for parents and students to turn to if they are struggling with social and emotional issues. Please check out the links below.
Avondale Youth Assistance (AYA) has maintained a long-standing partnership with the Avondale School District offering counseling and prevention services to Avondale students and their families in pursuit of its mission to prevent juvenile delinquency. No Bullying Live Empowered (NoBLE) is a Beaumont Hospital based program providing integrated educational and counseling services to provide support for bullied children and families affected by bullying. GROUPS FOR TEENAGERS
- The TEEN E.D.G.E. is an 8-week group for males and females struggling with type of depression, anxiety, or self-destructive behaviors. This group focuses on helping teens to learn positive thinking patterns and valuable coping skills.
- The CUTTING E.D.G.E. is a group for all teens who have self-injured in any way. The group discusses what drives the behavior and how to stop. Parent education is included in this 9-week group.
- The SOCIAL SKILLS E.D.G.E. involves hands-on learning for males and females as they practice valuable social skills needed to function in society. This 8-week group is useful for those with social deficits.
- SELF CONTROL E.D.G.E. is a co-ed group for teens struggling with impulsivity, hyperactivity, and oppositional behavior. This 8-week group will aid in learning valuable skills to gain control over these behaviors.
