Your freshman year of high school is a very critical year. It is the first year that your grades will really start counting toward graduation. All of the classes you take this year are Michigan Graduation Requirements which means you have to pass all of your classes this year in order to be on track for Graduation in 2018. The grades you earn in your classes will be calculated into a cumulative grade point average (GPA) and will follow you from the start of your 9th grade year all the way through graduation. Colleges and Universities use your high school GPA as one of the deciding factors for admission.

Some Tips for Success
- Good Attendance - Attendance is one of the key components to academic success. If you are tardy or absent from your classes you are missing valuable instruction time that cannot be made up.
- Homework - Homework points add up quickly and if you aren't turning in your homework you are losing out on points that count toward your final grade.
- Organization - For many students academic success is related more to organization than intellectual ability. Use your binder and weekly agenda and make sure to clean it out and organize it on a weekly basis.
- Time management - Make a schedule for yourself each week. Leave time in your schedule for homework and studying.
- Participation - One of the ways you can reinforce what you are learning in class is to participate.
- Studying - Some of your classes may require additional time outside of the classroom to learn the material. Different ways of studying can include flashcards, reviewing notes or completed assignments, completing a review/study guide, practicing math problems, having someone quiz you and more. Ask your teachers what their favorite study method is!
- Tutoring - If you are struggling with a concept or on an assignment please come to tutoring after school. Your teachers are there to help.
